What is it for?

Allersoothe (Promethazine HCL) is an antihistamine used to treat symptoms of allergies such as a runny nose, itchiness, watery eyes, or mild skin reactions. It also has anti-nausea properties making it useful for preventing motion sickness.

How do you use it?

Take Allersoothe (Promethazine HCL) according to your doctor's instructions as your dosage will be based on your symptoms and health condition. One tablet is normally taken one to four times each day with or without food and should be swallowed with a large glass of water. If you are taking the medication to treat motion sickness, you are suggested to swallow one tablet thirty to sixty minutes before travelling.

Any side effects?

You may encounter mild side effects while using Allersoothe (Promethazine HCL) such as constipation, weight gain, disturbed vision, dizziness, tinnitus, impotence, or lowered sex drive. Even though they rarely occur, more serious side effects may also occur that require emergency medical assistance. These include slowed heart rate, hallucinations, seizures, faintness, a high fever, severe nausea, or halted urination. Your doctor will change your dosage to prevent more complications from occurring.

Do not begin using Allersoothe (Promethazine HCL) if you are lactose intolerant, diabetic, or if you are taking MAOI medications. You should also tell your doctor if you have a respiratory disorder, epilepsy, closed angle glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, or heart disease as these conditions can cause complications with treatment and may need a reduced dosage to prevent complications.

Do not use Allersoothe (Promethazine HCL) for more than seven days unless your doctor tells you to do so. It is also suggested to avoid driving or performing dangerous tasks while undergoing treatment as it may cause confusion or drowsiness.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or attempting to conceive as the medication may cause problems with the fetus's development. You are also recommended to discuss the risks of treatment with your doctor if you are breastfeeding because a small amount of medication may be excreted through breast milk.
