What is it for?

Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) is used by doctors to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or fluid retention. The medication is a diuretic that prevents sodium absorption to draw excess water out of the system and excrete it through urination.

How do you use it?

Follow your doctor's instructions for using Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) to get the best treatment. Your dosage will be based on your symptoms and health condition and should never be changed to prevent problems that may occur. These doses can be taken with or without food and should be swallowed with a full glass of water. It is not recommended to take the doses within four hours of going to sleep to prevent sleep disturbances caused by increased urination. Try to take the doses at the same time each day to get the most effective results.

Any side effects?

You may experience a few mild side effects while using Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) including an upset stomach, constipation, diarrhea, or blurry vision. Even though they are rare, you may also encounter more serious health problems such as dry mouth, numbness, tingling, severe rash, extreme drowsiness, muscle pain, discoloured stools, jaundice, or allergic reactions. These require immediate medical attention and should be disclosed to your doctor as soon as possible.

Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) should not be used if you have glandular problems, high calcium or potassium levels, organ failure, inability to urinate, or allergies to similar treatments. Also tell your doctor if you have diabetes, gout, systemic lupus, or high uric acid levels in the blood. These conditions may cause complications with treatment and may require adjustments to your dosage.

Avoid alcohol intake as it may enhance the blood lowering effect of the medication. You are also suggested to not drive or perform dangerous tasks until you know how the medicine will affect you as it may cause dizziness or confusion.

Do not use Aquazide (Hydrochlorothiazide) if you are pregnant, suspect you may be pregnant, or attempting to conceive since it may reduce blood flow to the developing fetus. The medicine is also excreted through breast milk and should not be used if you are breastfeeding. Discuss the risks of the medication with your doctor before use to decide if it is right for you.
