What is it for?
Trazonil (Trazodone HCL) is for treating depression. It is also sometimes used by people who suffer from anxiety, to help them to relax, or for treating chronic pain. This medicine works by increasing the action of a natural chemical in the brain (serotonin), which can help to relieve symptoms of depression.

How do you use it?
Take Trazonil (Trazodone HCL) tablets by mouth. It's best if you take it with either a meal or snack. You have to go and see your doctor to find out the dosage that is best suited for you. Sometimes, doctors might tell their patients to take it twice per day. It might be necessary for your doctor to give you a low dosage at first, which is then increased. Usually, you will need to take this medicine for 2 weeks (or even longer) before it fully starts to work. Don't suddenly stop taking these tablets. Instead, go and see your doctor because your dosage will probable need to be gradually reduced.

Any side effects?
Trazonil (Trazodone HCL) can sometimes cause side effects in people who take it. Most of the time, these are not that serious. Possible side effects of this medicine include:

  • Problems with your memory
  • Pain in the muscles
  • Blurred vision
  • A ringing noise in the ears
  • Strange taste in the mouth

Tell your doctor about any side effects you notice. It's worth noting that in a small number of people might experience serious side effects. You have to go to see your doctor straight away if you notice pain in the chest, breathlessness, loss of coordination, a painful erection which lasts for a long time, breathlessness or any other side effects not listed here.


Precautions
Trazonil (Trazodone HCL) can cause an increase in depression in a small number of people who take it. It may even cause suicidal thoughts. This is most likely in teenagers and young adults. Talk to your doctor about the risks of taking this medicine before you start treatment.

If you have a history of a priapism (a painful erection that lasts for a prolonged period of time) caused by taking this medicine, tell your doctor, because this medicine is probably not suitable for you.
