Salbutamol 100mcg Inhaler 200 doses

What is it for?
Ventolin (Salbutamol) is in a group of drugs known as bronchodilators. It is prescribed to asthmatic patients to prevent and treat asthma symptoms such as wheezing, breathlessness and tightness in the chest. In addition to this, doctors may recommend using it to prevent difficulty breathing caused by exercise. The active ingredient in this drug works by opening up the breathing passages in the airways and helping the muscles to relax. This makes it easier to breathe. Doctors may also prescribe this medication to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

How do you use it?
Ventolin (Salbutamol) comes as an aerosol inhaler containing enough medication for 200 doses. Patients must insert the inhaler into their mouth, and press down on the canister to spray the medication, which may then be inhaled. Your doctor will tell you how much to administer and how often to administer when prescribing it to you. Patients are sometimes told to take it every 4 to 6 hours. If you are using this medication to prevent breathing problems caused by exercise, ask your doctor for more information. You may be told to take it 15 to 30 minutes before exercising. When administering the inhaler, you should be careful that you don't spray any of the medication in your eyes.

Any side effects?
You may experience some side effects when taking Ventolin (Salbutamol). Possible side effects include:

  • Uncontrolled shaking of the body
  • Problems sleeping
  • Cold symptoms
  • Painful muscles
  • A sore or dry throat

When your doctor prescribes this medicine to you, he or she will most likely clearly explain the risk of side effects. Although the side effects mentioned above are considered to be less severe in nature, you should still report all side effects to your doctor. Immediately seek medical attention if you notice pain in the chest, bronchospasms, tremors or any other side effects which have not been listed here.

*Precautions*
If you suffer from or have a history of suffering from heart problems, hypertension, an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), seizures or diabetes, it is very important that you share this information with your doctor before you commence treatment with this drug.

In rare cases, you may suffer from wheezing or breathing problems after using this inhaler. If this occurs, you must see your doctor as soon as possible, and avoid using the inhaler again unless told by your doctor that it is safe to do so.
